From today through Sunday the entrance fee is being waived at all National Parks in honor of their 100th birthday.

There are more than 400 National Parks and 124 of those normally charge an entrance fee.

The fee waiver includes entrance fees, commercial tour fees, and transportation entrance fees.
Other fees such as reservation, camping, tours, concession and fees collected by third parties are not included unless stated otherwise.

All kids entering 4th grade and their families can get a pass to access all parks for free for a year.

We look forward to visiting some of our Michigan National Parks this weekend.

@Dan

The pass is for the 2015 to 2016 school year. It expires August 31, 2016.

So, it’s not for a year anymore, rather just one week.

Great coincidence! We were on our way to Zion National Park when we got your post! Saved us a $30 dollar entrance fee!

Helene

Anyone know which are in nj??

Jack

I thought all parks are free? Who pays to get into a park?

Sure. Go to the link in the posting and click on NY/NJ/CT/PA.

@Jack: National parks are huge and require a lot of “maintenance” which is (partially?) covered by entrance fess

A nice day trip if you live near Monsey is to Scranton PA. It’s about a 2 hour drive. You can check out Steamtown USA there which is a national park. https://www.nps.gov/stea/index.htm . Went there this past Chol Hamoed Pesach. Good place. Kids will like it.

Dan gives a link above by STATE which lists which parks are free. Looks at there for more places.

If you are up in the Catskills for the summer it’s only a 1 hour 35 minute trip to Scranton. Depending where you are (White Lake for example 1hr 20 min) it may even be a shorter drive.
